Description

Mikhail IUrievich Lermontov (1814-41; Михаил Юрьевич Лeрмонтов) born into wealth and nobility in Moscow, was orphaned in early life, but received an aristocratic upbringing and an elite education. His best known narrative poem The Demon is about a solitary, defiant fallen angel's yearning for a human's love. It inspired other works such as Pasternak's poetry and Rubinshtein's eponymous opera. This miniature edition showcases Vrubel's famous paintings of the Demon on 6 color plates and two fold-out leaves.
